WAUSAU (WAOW)-- About 45 companies came to North Central Technical College looking for the right people to join their team. The athletic clothing company, East Bay sought out to recruit about 30 new workers. It goes to show that job opportunities are out there.
"The economy is opening up at this point. We've noticed a slight increase in manufacturing. Of course the medical field has been strong it continues to be strong in the area," says Employment and Training Specialist, Gary Albrecht.
You might also consider the bridal industry. The owner of Elegant Occasions a bridal and formalwear store in Rib Mountain searches for people to join her sales team. She says last year Wisconsin saw an 80 year low in the number of weddings but now couples are ready to dish out the cash.
"We are seeing a lot of weddings that are going to happen this year that are put off from last year," says store owner, Greta Wood.
She handed out about 60 applications to job seekers looking to help her expand her business. One of those applicants is Angela Colby. She's part of the nation's unemployment figure. The US Department of Labor reports that last month the unemployment rate held at 9.7%.
Colby says she knows she's not alone in the job hunt. "Unreal competition is just the biggest challenge. Just getting your foot in the door just for an interview," says job seeker, Angela Colby.
The employment specialist gave a few tips for job seekers. He says to dress the part, provide a decent resume and stay positive.
