Merrill's Sam Arneson commits to play football at Wisconsin
By Russ Owens
(WAOW)- Merrill junior football star Sam Arneson will suit up for the Wisconsin Badgers in 2011. The Blue Jays tight end committed to play for UW on Thursday afternoon and will receive a full scholarship to join Wisconsin in two years.
Merrill athletic director Jordan Sinz confirmed the news to WAOW on Friday. Arneson is currently heading to Madison to watch practice and then the spring game on Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium.
As a junior, the 6'4", 225-pound Arneson caught 37 passes for 426 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Sam's father Dave also played for the Badgers back in the 1980's. Merrill head coach Tom Tourtillott tells us that both of Arneson's grandfathers played football under Bear Bryant at the University of Kentucky.
