PRESS RELEASE: Murley among finalists for Iowa City superintendent

IOWA CITY (PRESS RELEASE)--The Iowa City Community School District has announced three finalists for the soon-to-be-vacant superintendent position.

The finalists are:

-- Mark Bezek, currently superintendent of Elk River Area Schools in Elk River, Minn., a district of 13,000 students and 2,000 employees.

-- Brad Meeks, currently superintendent of the Farmington, Minn., school district, which has 6,400 students and 750 employees.

-- Steve Murley, currently superintendent of the Wausau, Wis., school district, which has 8,500 students and 1,200 employees.

The district is looking to replace Lane Plugge, who will resign on June 30 after 11 years with the district.

Each will spend a day in the district next week — Bezek on Tuesday, Murley on Wednesday and Meeks on Thursday — and will tour the district, meet with people and attend a public forum at 6:15 p.m. The board will interview each candidate in open session starting at 7 p.m.
