WAUSAU (WAOW)--January 12th, 2010 a catastrophic Earthquake hits Haiti toppling buildings and taking lives. Some NTC students call Haiti their home. Today Red Cross Instructors prepared them and other international NTC Students to return to their native countries.

The full day event provided information and skills based on International Humanitarian Law like, "planning a camp, the ethics of humanitarian action, how to meet the needs of a disaster victim" says American Red Cross Instructor, Lora Hainy.

The Haitian Students paid close attention, listening for tools to help them rebuild their country. "I was so happy to be here today to learn some of the steps of how to rescue some people," says Haitian NTC Student, Serge Buno Ulysse.

"In the case of Haiti, this is going to be a prolonged assistance event because of the total devastation and the range of devastation in the urban population," says Hainy.

A few months remain before the students return to their native countries. The Haitian students know life at home won't be the same.

"I'm still excited to go back because I miss my family and I miss my country. On the other hand, I keep thinking about how things are going to be," says Haitian NTC Student, Eliseo Lacossiere.

"I feel sad because I have a lot of friends who are not alive; I know that they are dead," says Buno Ulysse.

With the skills they learned today, they're ready to make a difference.

"My plan is first of all get a job and to help other people as much as I can," says Ulysse.
