(WAOW) - When the WIAA first entertained the possibility of switching from a 4-division basketball postseason to a 5-division model, the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association was on board. As of this past weekend, the organization has decided to remain neutral on the topic.
WBCA President Jerry Petitgoue confirmed to Newsline 9 that the proposed change was causing tensions amongst his member schools. To avoid problems within the WBCA, they chose to withdraw their support and not take an official stance on the proposition.
This is the second time in the span of a long weekend that the 5-division plan has met a roadblock. On April 15, the Basketball Coaches Advisory Committee voted against the change. An official decision will not be made until late June when the WIAA Board of Control has their vote.
