Burning ban in effect

RIB MOUNTAIN (WAOW)-- In light of dry conditions, the DNR places a burning ban on fire pits. The Fire Chief of Rib Mountain Fire Department says flames spread rapidly in these conditions. He says if you're found responsible for a fire, you'll likely pay.

"If they would happen to burn down acres of trees, they could be charged for each tree. If they burn down a neighbors house, they could be responsible for that. It's all things to think about when you are starting a fire, especially in these conditions, what responsibility you actually have," says Fire Chief, Paul Wirth.

He offers a few suggests to prevent a fire. He says to water down ashes after barbecuing, mow the lawn in the morning when there's dew on the ground, properly dispose of cigarettes and clear sticks and twigs off your lawn and away from your house.
