RIB MOUNTAIN (WAOW)--Talking on the phone, eating, even changing the radio station while driving may seem harmless But the Department of Transportation reports that last year, inattentive driving caused a third of Wisconsin crashes.

You might be surprised at how far you travel during a quick glance away from the road. "If you figure that you are going down the expressway at 60 miles per hour, that's a mile a minute. You work it out that in the two second you look away, you are covering about a half of a football field," says DOT Drivers License Examiner, Dan Malm.

Malm says distracted driving is anything from texting to engaging in a heated conversation. Wisconsin police can pull you over and fine you for inattentive driving.
