UPDATE: Man arrested after standoff; roads reopen

ROTHSCHILD (WAOW) -- An armed man who barricaded himself in a Rothschild motel for five hours is in police custody.

Our crew at the scene reports police arrested the man shortly after midnight Wednesday at the Budge Inn on East Grand Avenue.

Traffic was blocked in the area for several hours Tuesday night.

The Marathon County Special Response Team assisted the Marathon County Sheriff's Department and the Rothschild Police Department with the situation.

Police aren't saying what led up to the incident or who the man is.

ROTHSCHILD (WAOW)-- Police and SWAT teams are still on the scene of an armed standoff in Rothschild. 

Police surrounded the Budge Inn on East Grand Avenue shortly after 7:15 PM.

Police say you should stay away from the area. Some local businesses are being evacuated and traffic is blocked off between the intersections of Business 51 & Jelinek Avenue and Old Grand Avenue and Business 51.

Our crew on the scene reports officers with rifles drawn. Squads are located throughout that block and scanner reports indicate they are staging the scene.
