Teacher charged with possessing heroin

JANESVILLE (AP) -- A Brodhead Spanish teacher is out of jail on a signature bond following her arrest this week on suspicion of possessing heroin and other drugs.

Thirty-one-year-old Katherine Lynn Mielke of Edgerton made an appearance in Rock County Circuit Court Tuesday on two felony charges of possessing narcotics and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.

Sheriff's officials say Mielke was arrested Monday afternoon after her vehicle was stopped on Highway 11 in Rock County.

Authorities tell the Beloit Daily News Mielke had possession of six packets of heroin, each weighing 1.6 grams, and also possessed- oxycodone and hydrocodone. Mielke has been ordered to have no contact with Brodhead High School staff or students.

A phone listing for Mielke could not be found and the Rock County District Attorney's office did not have an attorney for Mielke listed.
