Packers Trade Up To Draft 3rd-Round Safety

Posted:

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Green Bay Packers put their defense first on the second day of the NFL draft, taking Purdue defensive lineman Mike Neal in the second round and trading up to select Georgia Tech safety Morgan Burnett in the third round.

The Packers used the No. 56 overall pick on Neal, who will be a defensive end in the Packers' 3-4 scheme. He had 5 1/2 sacks and 11 1/2 tackles for loss as a senior.

The Packers then made a deal to acquire Cleveland's third-round selection Friday night and take Burnett, giving the Browns their third-round selection and a fourth-rounder.

The Packers addressed their biggest need in Thursday's first round, taking Iowa offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga.
