MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A national traveling exhibit on suicide prevention will be displayed Wednesday at Marquette University.
Some 1,100 backpacks will represent the 1,100 college students nationally who die by suicide each year.
Active Minds is a student organization that promotes mental health discussion and tries to combat student suicide. It selected Marquette as one of 10 locations for the display, which is part of the "Send Silence Packing" tour. The event was organized by the group's campus chapter.
The public exhibit is free. About 75 of the backpacks include a profile of a college student who was a suicide victim.
Active Minds received a $50,000 Pepsi Refresh grant for the exhibit's tour.
