(WAOW) - Jerry Prusinski, a UW-Stevens Point senior from Rib Lake, has been named the WIAC Athlete of the Week for field events in Men's Track and Field.
Prusinski reached a season high in the hammer throw for the third straight week. He placed first in the event at the UW-Whitewater's Rex Foster Open hosted on April 24. Prusinki's throw of 187-1 (57.02 meters) was four meters further than the second-place throw and the fifth-longest throw in the NCAA Division III this season. His performance solidified Prusinki's automatic qualifying spot in the NCAA Division III Championship.
Also, UW-Oshkosh's 4x100-Meter Relay Team earned the league honor for track events. The team includes John Cejka, a freshman from Wausau West.
The quartet finished third at the prestigious Drake Relays held April 21-24 in Des Moines, Iowa. They competed in the College Division and posted a time of 41.26. The performance surpassed the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III Championship. The time also ranks as the second fastest in the NCAA Division III this season. NCAA Division II Lincoln University (Mo.) won the event with a time of 40.13, while NCAA Division II Emporia State University (Kan.) finished second at 40.97.
