Watertown man sentenced for trying to poison wife

JUNEAU (AP) -- A Watertown man is sentenced to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to trying to poison his former wife's coffee and soda with weed killer.

Dodge County Judge Andrew Bissonnette stayed a three-and-a-half year prison sentence for 54-year-old Peter E. Zubke. He could be forced to serve the longer sentence if he breaks conditions of a three-year probation.

Last June, Michelle Zubke told police in Watertown that she suspected her husband had been spiking her drinks with chemicals or bleach for up to a month. He initially denied the charges but said he had recently discovered his wife was seeing someone else.

The judge says Peter Zubke may have no contact with his former wife except for family court and child custody arrangements, and ordered him to undergo counseling.
