STEVENS POINT - UW-Stevens Point Head Football Coach John Miech has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2010 season.
The 10 game schedule features the Pointers hosting six games in Community Stadium at Goerke Park, including three nonconference games to begin the 2010 campaign.
UW-Stevens Point will kick-off the season squaring off against Willamette (Oregon) on September 4th at 2 p.m. The Bearcats finished 8-2 last season, 5-1 in the Northwest Conference.
UWSP will then have a bye the following Saturday before continuing their non-conference schedule, hosting Missouri S & T on September 18th in the annual Spud Bowl. The Pointers won their first-ever meeting against the NCAA Division II school last season 21-17. UW-Stevens Point under Coach Miech is20-2 all-time in Spud Bowl games including a 48-33 victory over UW-Eau Claire last season.
Albion College (Mich.) then comes to town on September 25th. UWSP has never faced Albion, members of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Last season the Pointers were on the road for all three non-conference match-ups where they went 1-2.
The Pointers will get their first taste of the road as they open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on October 2nd against UW-Eau Claire. The Pointers are 41-31-5 all-time against the Blugolds.
The Pointers then return home to battle the Titans of UW-Oshkosh on Homecoming 2010 on October 9. Last season Point spoiled Oshkosh's homecoming, handing them a 21-14 defeat at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
UW-Stevens Point will then travel to UW-Stout for a October 16 match-up before returning to Goerke Park for a match-up against UW-La Crosse in the Hall of Fame Game on October 23rd.
The Pointers will wrap up the month of October when they travel to reigning WIAC Champion UW-Whitewater on the 30th to try and avenge a 41-12 defeat at the hands of the Warhawks last season.
The month of November features one home and one away game this season, traveling to UW-River Falls on the 6th and hosting UW-Platteville on the 13th for Senior Day to wrap-up the regular season.
All games, with the exception of the home opener, are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
