Weekend for fancy felines

By Heather Sawaski

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- It was a purr-fect weekend of competition for cats and their owners. The 21st annual Central Wisconsin Cat Show was back in Wausau. More than 100 furry felines from across the Midwest and Canada strutted their stuff and showed why they deserve top prize.

For judging, cats are put into categories based on breed. Judges look at things like fur, face, and tail. There is a category for your everyday household cat, but a lot of spectators come to see the more exotic breeds.

"Since it's our 21st year we have a reputation and lots of people like to come to our show to see the different breeds that they maybe read about in a magazine," explained Show Manager Donald Finger. "They want to come here to see what they look like and touch them and hold them, if that's allowed by the breeder exhibiting them. People just want to learn more about the breeds."

One of the rarest breeds is the Turkish Van. There are only 6 breeders in the country, and two of them brought cats to the Wausau show.
