HORICON, Wis. (AP) - Hundreds of birders from around the nation are expected at a bird festival in eastern Wisconsin this week.
The annual Horicon Marsh Bird Festival is at the Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area and National Wildlife Refuge in Dodge County from Friday through next Monday.
The festival started in 1997 and Department of Natural Resources wildlife educator Bill Volkert says more than 500 people attend each year. He says birders come from throughout the upper Midwest and as far away as New York, Virginia, Colorado, California and Washington.
The event has about 50 tours, hikes, demonstrations and other bird-related activities. It's held at the peak of spring migration.
