PALO ALTO, CA (WAOW) - Stevens Point native Chris Solinsky won the 10,000 meter race at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational in Palo Alto, CA on Saturday. In doing so, the 25-year-old shattered the American record in the event, running the race in 26 minutes, 59.60 seconds. That's more than 14 seconds faster than the old mark.
The SPASH grad and 5-time NCAA champion from Wisconsin is the first American to ever break the 27-minute mark. Solinsky is also the fastest non-African-born athlete to run the event.
Saturday's race also saw the setting of a new NCAA record and a new Canadian record.
