Local college partners with businesses for scholarship dollars

RIB MOUNTAIN (WAOW) -- An area college is working to raise funds to help ease the financial stress for some of its students. It's called A Day For NTC. School reps from North Central Technical College are partnering with hundreds of area businesses to raise money for the school's scholarship program.

They're going from one business to the next to collect donations checks. Tuesday morning, they made a stop at Olsen Flooring in Rib Mountain.

More than 80% of NTC students apply for financial assistance each year and school leaders say for many, the chance at a scholarship makes all the difference.

"These scholarships are for the students who don't have the financial means to be able to go back to school," explained Jeannie Worden, Vice President of College Advancement. "But they do have the desire and the want to do so."

Last year, the NTC Foundation awarded 435 students scholarships worth more than $288,000.
