(WAOW)- As is standard for the Newman high school track team, the Cards are again fighting to send several competitors to the state meet in La Crosse.
That time is just around the corner, as regionals start the last week in May.
For Newman, a team whose girls won state and boys took third a year ago, the key will be peaking at the right time once again.
Says Newman Head Coach Paul Michlig, "I know the kids are excited, there's no better time in high school athletics than being in front of that 10 thousand, 15 thousand people down in LaCrosse. I know as a coaching staff, when the calendar turns May, it's time to crank it up."
Says Senior Emily Schuster, "We're really excited for postseason because its crunch time now. We're really trying to get better every meet and our goal is to get down there and do really well."
Says Senior Brandon Knoblock, "Coach Michlig is always putting us in the spots where he knows we can do well, and we got it all covered again this year and everyone is really stepping it up to try and make it back down to state."
