(WAOW)- Wausau West Senior Jessica Waldvogel is easily one of the biggest high school sports stars in the North Central Wisconsin area.
She may forever be known to fans for this near-half court shot that sent West to the state basketball semifinals in March, but she'll make her name at the collegiate level running track and field, commiting this week to the University of Minnesota.
Waldvogel has qualified for the state track meet every year of her high school career, and last spring earned her first trip to the podium, winning the long jump, taking 2nd in the 400, and 4th in the 200.
She chose Minnesota over the likes of U-W Milwaukee, Southern Illinois, and Illinois State.
Waldvogel, "I just like the athletic program and being in the Big Ten Conference. Academics-wise it's just a good school all-around and the team was welcoming when I went there. It felt like a good fit for me."
'Was it hard to choose between basketball and track?'
Waldvogel says, "It was really hard. It came down to the end. I just decided, 'I'm gonna have to make a decision soon' and I went with track."
