WAUSAU (WAOW) - Now that Dave Obey nears the end of his congressional career, the Democratic party anticipates who will replace him.

With more than 40 years on Capitol Hill, Obey carried plenty of respect.

State representatives Louis Molepske and Donna Seidel are two of the names floated as possible replacements.

Each anticipates a large void to fill.

Louis Molepske: "You're going to be a freshman. Whoever wins this race is going to be a freshman. That appropriations position is no longer there. But that brings with it great opportunity. It's a new seat, you mold it as you see fit."

Donna Seidel: "The most important thing for those of us who have talked about this is that we are determined to find the best candidate to represent the values and the interests of everybody in this district, go to Washington and continue the legacy of Dave Obey. So there's hard work ahead but I think a decision will be made in the next few days and I think we will emerge with a really strong candidate.

Other names include.. State Senators Russ Decker, Julie Lassa and Pat Kreitlow.
