RIVER FALLS, Wis. (PRESS RELEASE)--Three-time defending champion University of Wisconsin-La Crosse holds a slight advantage at the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship following the first of two days of competition at UW-River Falls' Ramer Field on May 7.
The Eagles have amassed 66.50 team points to nip UW-Oshkosh's second-place sum of 65.5 points. UW-Eau Claire is third with 40 points, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 30 points, UW-River Falls fifth with 23 points, UW-Whitewater sixth with 20 points, UW-Platteville seventh with 16 points and UW-Stout eighth with 12 points. UW-Superior is also competing in the championship.
UW-La Crosse won a pair of individual titles during the first day of events. Stephanie Perleberg captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the second straight year with a time of 38:13.48. Ashton May earned the long jump with a leap of 18-3.
UW-Oshkosh also claimed two individual crowns as Sue Trzebiatowski claimed the hammer throw for the second consecutive season with a fling of 182-4. Danielle Carrigan was victorious in the pole vault with a height of 11-8.
UW-Stevens Point's Kelly Haen won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:13.48, while teammate Bethany Utecht earned a first-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 124-2.
UW-Platteville's 4x800-meter relay team produced a winning time of 9:28.00.
