WAUSAU (WAOW)--The Wisconsin State Treasurer, Dawn Marie Sass, pays a visit to our area and brings good news for many people. She's returning unclaimed property, which is basically, money you forgot about. Unclaimed property includes uncashed checks, matured bonds and stock and mutual fund shares.

She says every year the State receives millions of dollars in assets from businesses who cannot find the owners. One woman at the Marathon County Library was surprised to learn she had more than $20,000 in unclaimed property!

"The libraries are a great place to be because people just come in and everybody is curious. This lady who is just leaving, she found her ex-sister in law, her two nephews, she was on there, too,and her mother who was deceased for many years. We're going to help her get her money back," says Sass.

If you missed the treasurers visit, you can log on to Missing to see if you have any unclaimed property. To claim it, you need to send in a form and documentation. You should receive your money within a few weeks. The treasurer says there are more than 2 million dollars of unclaimed property for accounts in Marathon County alone.
