WAUSAU (WAOW) - Two high profile local athletes sign their names on the dotted line, officially accepting college scholarships to the University of Minnesota on Monday.
West three sport star Jessica Waldvogel made her commitment last Friday, but makes the decision official today as she'll head to Minnesota on a track scholarship.
Says Waldvogel, "I'm really excited now that I've decided and I can finish out the season knowing it's not on my shoulders, I don't have to worry about where I'm gonna go to college."
And for the Warrior, it will now be easier for Waldvogel to put all her attention toward getting back to the state meet in La Crosse where she won a gold medal a year ago.
Says Waldvogel, "Hopefully I can get back to the state meet of course and do well and there, and it's gonna be a lot easier knowing I've already picked my college and I don't have to go down there and try and impress anyone."
Joining her in the Twin Cities will be East and Wausau Tide swimmer Danny Brebrick who also signs with the Gophers where he'll join three guys he used to swim with at East.
Says Brebrick, "It's definitely gonna be really fun to swim with them again because last time I swam with them, I was a freshman, I think I fit in there very well. Whatever I accomplished in high school or before that, they obviously wanna build off that, and they think that I can."
Brebrick also gets to hit the pool with a program that ranked in the top twelve nationally last season.
Says Brebrick, "It's a really big accomplishment, it's gonna be a great experience for me, it's gonna be really fun, I'm gonna have a great time and I feel honored to be a part of that team."
