Roethlisberger: Can't cut him, can't stand him

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- For all of his off-field problems, Ben Roethlisberger is still a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Numerous fans in a proud city where the quarterback's number 7 jerseys could be seen everywhere would like to know why. They've ripped "Big Ben" bumper stickers off their cars, tossed out their expensive replica jerseys and distanced themselves from one of the franchise's most successful players.

The reason why the Steelers have kept him despite his six-game suspension following a sexual assault allegation in Georgia is simple: They have too much invested in him to let go.

They've paid Roethlisberger about $50 million in salary and bonuses the past three seasons, and an aging team with a defense that may be on the downslide would have little chance to win the Super Bowl without him. Also, he wasn't charged in Georgia. Still, some fans wish he'd simply go away.
