MADISON (WAOW) - UW-Stevens Point starting pitcher Joel Delorit (Sturgeon Bay/Southern Door) has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Pitcher of the Week.
In his 2010 final start of the regular season on May 8, Delorit pitched his third straight eight-inning complete game and earned his sixth win of the year as UW-Stevens Point earned a 10-0 victory. He shutout UW-Stout allowing two hits, while facing 26 batters. Delorit allowed one hit in the first inning, a walk in the third and was perfect until the sixth inning when he allowed a single. Delorit's 11 strikeouts added onto his team high of 78 for the season.
Delorit ranks fourth in the WIAC in ERA (3.64) and his 78 strikeouts leads the conference.
Delorit and the Pointers return to action on Friday, May 14 when they travel to Whitewater for the opening game of the 2010 WIAC Tournament, hosted by UW-Whitewater. The second-seeded Pointers will square off against third-seeded UW-Platteville at 10 a.m. The winner advances to play top seed UW-Whitewater at 1 p.m.
