Recall effort begins against Juneau Co. prosecutor
MADISON (AP) -- A committee has officially formed to recall a Wisconsin prosecutor who warned health teachers they could face criminal charges for teaching students how to use contraceptives.
The group needs about 2,000 signatures by July 19 and an opposing candidate to force Juneau County District Attorney Scott Southworth into a recall election.
The recall committee official registered with state election officials Wednesday. Treasurer Jennifer Specht of Necedah says Southworth's letter amounts to self-promotion, among other issues the committee has with his performance.
Southworth, a Republican, didn't immediately respond to an e-mail message Wednesday evening. The after-hours answering machine at his office didn't allow messages to be left.
