Singer will not renovate Eau Claire building into studio
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) -- The singer of Bon Iver and his brother have decided against turning a vacant downtown Eau Claire building into a small concert venue and recording and video studio.
Justin Vernon is an Eau Claire native and lead singer and songwriter of the band. Nate Vernon is the band's tour manager. They wanted to buy and renovate a 103-year-old city-owned building and turn it into an all-ages venue and cultural center called Union College.
In an e-mail to Eau Claire's Redevelopment Authority, the brothers said they found that the cost of building renovations made it difficult for the center to survive. They wrote they "are pausing our vision for a venue in Eau Claire at the moment."
