Unemployment drops across Wisconsin

Posted:

MADISON (AP) -- Unemployment rates dropped in all 12 major metropolitan areas across Wisconsin in April.

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development reported Wednesday that unemployment was also down from the previous month in every county except Menominee.

Job growth was reported in all metropolitan areas as well.

Department Secretary Roberta Gassman says the numbers are another sign that the economy is recovering.

Beloit had the highest unemployment of any city at 16.8 percent, but that was down from 18.3 percent the previous month. It was also down from a year ago when it was 17.5 percent.

Statewide adjusted unemployment in April was 8.5 percent, which was down two-tenths of a percent from a year ago.
