Snowmelt Contest Close to the End

Rib Mountain

The 2010 Rib Mountain snowmelt contest is getting close to the end. The StormTrak9 weather team will be keeping a close eye on the melting snow over the next couple of days to accurately determine the last day of snow on Rib Mountain.

The warmer than normal Spring coupled with a lack of snowfall for most of the Winter and Spring has led to an early snowmelt date this year. I predicted May 24th and there was a larger percentage of contest participants picking May dates this year. Historically, the snow has melted as late as June 24th (just last year) and as early as May 25th. This year, it looks like the final melt will occur on Friday the 28th or Saturday the 29th. If the snow melts on Friday it would be particularly interesting as the 28th is the date most people predicted the snow to melt.

If the snow does melt on Friday or over the weekend, we will announce on Monday that the contest has come to a close and hold the drawings for the R-store gifts cards on Tuesday and Wednesday. Stay Tuned.
