WAUSAU (WAOW) - Brock Stassi, University of Nevada DH/LHP and 2010 Wisconsin Woodchucks signee, has won the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year award following a monstrous junior season.
Stassi led the conference with a 3.28 ERA and 7 wins over 71.1 innings of work, becoming only the second player in Nevada history to win the award. On the season Stassi struck out 59 while walking only 23, completing three of the eleven games he started.
At the WAC tournament banquet, Stassi also earned 1st team starting pitcher, and 2nd team utility player All-Conference honors.
Adding to his impressive pitching resume, Stassi played as the DH in every game he did not pitch, and even a few he did pitch. Amazingly, the lefty nearly led the team in batting average, posting a .375 batting average in 47 starts. Stassi showed off his impressive prowess at the plate by hitting 16 doubles, 5 triples, and 9 homers- for a .690 slugging percentage and a .478 on-base percentage.
