SCHOFIELD (WAOW) -- Democratic candidate for governor, Tom Barrett, stopped Monday in Schofield.
He visited Integrity Grading & Excavating to promote his plan to create jobs. The company works on infrastructure projects, including road and street construction.
Barrett says his primary goal is to help businesses grow.
"Well, everybody knows it's the private sector that creates the jobs," Barrett said. "The government doesn't create the jobs, but the government can be a good partner. And I think it's important for the governor to be the number one salesperson, ambassador, the person who is really going to promote the state," he said.
Barrett's ideas include tying business tax cuts to creating jobs.
He also plans to develop a venture capital fund. That would provide funding to help people start businesses.
The two main republicans running for governor are Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, and former Congressman Mark Neumann. They'll face off in a September primary.
