Three local baseball teams advance to state- Wednesday sports report 6/9/10

(WAOW)-  Three local baseball teams punched their tickets to the state tournament in Appleton on Wednesday night.  Starting in division one, Merrill is heading to state for the first time since 1991 after an 8-7 extra inning win over River Falls.  The Jays trailed in that game 7-2 after two innings.  In division three, Marathon topped Reedsville 9-2 to advance to Appleton for the third straight year.  Finally in division four, the Rosholt Hornets will head to Appleton for the second time in three seasons after their 11-1 win over Greenwood.

In the softball playoffs, in division one, Marshfield topped Wausau West 4-3 to advance to the sectional finals, as well as SPASH with a 1-0 win over Kimberly.  The Tigers will now face Chippewa Falls while the Panthers take on Kaukauna for a trip to state.  In division two, Mosinee lost to Rice Lake 7-3.  In division four, Rosholt topped Athens.
