Wausau, WI - June 13th, 2010 (PRESS RELEASE) - The Wisconsin Woodchucks fell to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters tonight by a score of 7-5. A poor showing by the ‘Chucks defense, a blowup second inning by starter Jerad Eickhoff, and several missed opportunities with runners in scoring position propelled the loss.
Jerad Eickhoff, a freshman right-hander from Olney Central College, took the loss after going 1.2 innings and allowing four hits, three walks, and four earned runs. Jayson McClaren continued his hot start, coming on in relief with two outs and the bases loaded in the second inning. McClaren would get out of the jam and go the distance, only giving up an unearned two run homerun in the top of the 6th inning, following an error by Robbie De La Cruz at first base with two outs.
The Woodchucks offense- led once again by Jamie Bruno- mustered 11 hits on the night, but were only able to send five baserunners across the plate. Bruno went 3-5 with a single, an RBI double, and a monster solo homerun in the 5th inning. Brandon King and Rob Lind continued their hot starts, each chipping in two hits.
Following the loss, the Woodchucks will still win the inaugural series 2 game to 1. The Rafters and Woodchucks will meet again for a two game home series next Monday night in Wausau, with the second game being played at Bukolt Park in Stevens Point. The ‘Chucks are off tomorrow, but will be back in action for a seven inning double header against Eau Claire on Tuesday night. The first pitch will be thrown out at 5:35, with the second game to follow half an hour after the first game's completion.
