Offense Silenced in Woodchucks Loss

WAUSAU (WAOW) -  Sloppy defense, shoddy relief pitching, and a stellar outing by Eau Claire starter George Jensen (3-0) resulted in a 4-1 Woodchucks loss tonight at Athletic Park.  Bobby Alcala (1-0), would have no decision after pitching a very solid 5+ innings, before being relieved by Jordan Luvisi with one on and no outs in the top of the 6th with the game tied 1-1.

Luvisi, making his first appearance as a pitcher for the Chucks, took the loss and gave up two hits, two walks, and two runs in 1.2 innings pitched.  Sam Wolff, a new roster addition, relieved Luvisi and would finish the game pitching 2.1 innings- giving up one earned run.

Sparks would fly in the top of the 7th inning, where Head Coach Guido Aspeitia was displeased with a two-out safe call on a close play at second base.  Guido would immediately jog out to the second base umpire and get tossed arguing the play, likely in an attempt to fire up his ho-hum team.

The Woodchucks offense, stifled by Eau Claire starter George Jensen, produced only one run on five hits.  That lone run came in the 5th inning courtesy of Rob Lind, Bryce Barger and Brandon King.  Lind would get aboard with his second single, Barger would send him to third on a bloop single to right, and King would get the RBI with a sacrifice fly to left field.  Jamie Bruno and Kevin Pillar would also record hits on the day, but the ‘Chucks would fail to threaten again on the night.

The ‘Chucks (7-7), now fall behind the division leading Eau Claire Express (10-3), by 3.5 games.  A chance to even the 4 game series will be had tomorrow, as the ‘Chucks travel to Carson Park in Eau Claire before heading to Waterloo for a three game weekend series.
