Pointer football team ranks 11th in USA Today DIII preseason poll


STEVENS POINT (PRESS RELEASE) - The University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point football team will enter the 2010 campaign ranked No. 11 according to the USA Today Division III Top 25 poll announced today.

The Pointers come off a 7-3 campaign in 2009 and will begin this season with three straight home games and four of their first five contests at the friendly confines of Community Stadium at Goerke Park.

The Pointers' roster is expected to boast over 60 returning letterwinners and will also include a talented class of transfers and recruits when the team opens preseason camp on August 14.

Defending national champion and fellow Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) member UW-Whitewater ranks second in the annual poll, behind national runner-up Mount Union. Wesley (Del.) St. Thomas (Minn.) and Linfield (Ore.) round out the top five.

The Pointers open the season against Willamette (Oregon) on Saturday, Sept. 4. Willamette enters the 2010 season ranked No. 17 in the poll.
