Wisconsin Rapids, WI June 23, 2010- Tommy Organ allowed two singles, a home run and a double before settling in to record the first out of Wednesday's game against the La Crosse Loggers. Three runs came home and the Loggers added on to win 7-2.
Organ, the eventual losing pitcher on the night, recovered from the hiccup in the first and threw two scoreless innings before leaving the game after four. He allowed four runs on five hits, including a home run, the third long ball over his last three outings.
The Rafters battled back against starter Calvin Drummond in the bottom of the fourth. Brian Embery singled and moved to third on back to back wild pitches. Jenzen Torres grounded into a fielder's choice to put the Rafters on the board. The very next batter, Ryan Palermo lined a home run over the left field wall to make it 4-2. The Rafters never scored again.
Dan Johnson allowed two La Crosse runs over two innings of relief for the Rafters, while Jesse Arreola turned in two sparkling innings of relief, striking out three.
Garrett Branske, a catcher by trade, made his first pitching appearance for the Rafters. The right hander allowed a run on a solo home run over his one inning of work in the ninth. "I pitched a bit my freshman year, but had to catch more this year because of injuries on our team." The Cal State Bakersfield sophomore hopes that with a bit more time he will be able to have more success on the mound. "I just didn't really have everything working for me today"
The Loggers are back in town Thursday night for a rematch at 7:05. Another lefty, Matt Baudino will start for the Rafters, while Tony Mueller is set to start for La Crosse. Join the Rafters for a salute to Vietnam Veterans of America as the Rafters welcome VVA chapter 101 to the ballpark.
