RUDOLPH (WAOW) -- One local man says he has invented a simple solution to the oil spill in the gulf.
Dan Nieman of Rudolph designed a cap he says will fit around the underwater pipe and hydraulically seal the leak.
He has a background in construction and demolition.
Nieman says the device weighs more than 6,000 pounds and could withstand 4,000 pounds of pressure under water.
"This is a simple fix, usually the hardest things are simple if you think about them, and my brain never stops working. I keep thinking, how can we make this simple, how can we make this work," said Nieman.
Nieman says engineers with Merrill Iron and Steel helped draw up these plans.
And they'd be willing to build the cap, if BP is interested.
Nieman says he has been trying to contact officials with BP, national news organizations and the government but has not yet gotten a response.
