LA CROSSE (WAOW) - The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters put runners on in eight of the nine innings against the La Crosse Loggers Friday night but scored just a single run and committed three errors in a 7-1 loss.
Damon McCormick started and lasted six innings but allowed a pair of two run home runs to put the Rafters behind early. McCormick allowed five total runs on just four hits. Two errors helped the Loggers to three runs in the bottom of the fifth. McCormick tallied six strike outs for the second straight start.
The lone Rafters run of the game came on a solo home run off the bat of Brian Embery. The Rafters first baseman mixed in a double and two walks to post a 2-for-3 night. Michael Smith added a single to the cause, running his hitting streak to six games. In all the Rafters left 11 men on base.
Brandon Van Dam allowed two runs in his single inning of relief while Garrett Brankse tossed a scoreless bottom of the eighth. La Crosse starter Dan Langfield picked up the win while McCormick is tabbed with the loss.
The Rafters host the Loggers for game two of the three game series Saturday at Witter Field. Game time is set for 7:05.
