Subject of Wisconsin Amber Alert spotted by motorist
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A motorist listening to a baseball game is being credited with spotting the Milwaukee woman whose disappearance with three children prompted an Amber Alert.
Lavatta Smith was arrested Monday afternoon in Kenosha County, about three hours after the alert was issued. Milwaukee police had said the 34-year-old and kids were missing under suspicious circumstances.
The Amber Alert listed the make, color and license plate of Smith's vehicle.
The state Justice Department says a motorist was listening to a Milwaukee Brewers game when the broadcast was interrupted for the alert. The man noticed Smith's car in front of him and called authorities.
Smith was pulled over. Five children in the car were safe, including the missing three.
Online court records didn't list an attorney for Smith on Tuesday.
