WAUSAU (WAOW)- You might be familiar with Florida International University baseball star Garrett Wittels who is now just two off the D1 record for consecutive games with a hit sitting at 56 currently.

Well, we have another superstar right here in Wausau playing with the Chucks for the summer who already holds that record in division two with 54 straight games at Cal State Dominguez Hills, that's Kevin Pillar.

Says Kevin Pillar, "54 game hitting streak kinda just shows consistency and that's what I'm all about as a player, if you put me in the lineup, I'm gonna produce in some way."

Says Guido Aspeitia, "54 straight games, amazing, what kinda mindset do you have to do that? A great one, so he's a champion, I love him, glad he's here."

What's even cooler about that semi-connection, one of Wittels' former coaches Scott Humes is now on the Wisconsin staff, and he sees many similarities between Garrett and Pillar.

Says Scott Hume, "Their work ethic and desire to get better, day in, day out on and off the field is very comparable and that's the traits you see in good players."

Says Pillar, "He said that Garrett was always in the batting cage before and after practice, he was a guy that showed up and played every day, that's kind of the similarities he sees in us."

Says Aspeitia, "When the game is on the line, he's who I want up to bat, not because he's gonna get a hit, but because it will be a quality at bat."

The outfielder is hitting close to .300 on the season and that consistency is a big reason why he leads the Chucks in at-bats.
