Waterloo, IA, July 11, 2010 (PRESS RELEASE)- The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters managed just four hits and only one scoring threat as they fell 6-0 to the Waterloo Bucks Sunday afternoon.
Waterloo starter Zach Cooper tossed eight innings of scoreless, four hit ball and Luke Putz set the Rafters down quietly around an error in the ninth to hand the Rafters their third shut-out loss of the season.
The Rafters put a runner on in six of their nine innings, but managed to put two on in just one inning and moved a runner to third only twice. Matt Johnson singled and took third on a wild throw after stealing second in the third and Ryan Palermo doubled with one out then moved to third on a ground ball in the seventh. But the Rafters left both possible tallies 90 feet away.
Matt Baudino lasted five innings for the Rafters and allowed four runs on five hits. The lefty walked two and struck out three. A pair of singles and a sacrifice scored one for the Bucks off Baudino in the second. With one out then in the fourth Waterloo went single, double, single to score two. A two out double made it a three run inning and set the margin at 4-0.
Brad Douthit threw two scoreless innings of relief, struck out one, walked one and allowed one hit. In the eighth Brandon Van Dam allowed the Bucks to pad their lead with two runs on a pair of singles and a walk.
The Rafters return home Monday July 13th to take on the Mallards at 7:05. Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey will be on hand at Witter Field, sponsored by the Payroll Company.
