National League Wins First All-Star Game Since 1996

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- The National League's long All-Star game nightmare is over.

Brian McCann's three-run double in the seventh inning gave the NL a 3-1 win over the American League.

The Braves catcher connected off of White Sox pitcher Matt Thornton to end the National League's 13-year winless streak in the midsummer classic.

The win also will give the NL representative in the World Series home field advantage for the first time since Major League Baseball starting awarding that edge to the All-Star game winner.

The American League took the lead in the fifth inning with a throwing error by Dodgers pitcher Hong-Chih Kuo setting up a sacrifice fly by the Yankees Robinson Cano.

The win goes to Washington reliever Matt Capps, while the Yankees Phil Hughes took the loss.
