(WAOW) - The Jacksonville Jaguars today announced the signing of Iola-Scandinavia graduate Austen Lane. The defensive end was taken in the 5th round, pick number 153 overall, in this year's NFL Draft.
The team did not release terms of the deal, but Lane's representatives tell me it's a 4-year contract. The Associated Press reports that Lane received a signing bonus around $180,000 and will earn minimum salaries each year. The minimum salary for rookies this year is $320,000, followed by $405,000 in 2011, $490,000 in 2012 and $575,000 in 2013.
Lane set Murray State records with 29 sacks and 55 tackles for loss in his college career. The Jaguars release says the 6'5", 274 pounder is the highest drafted player in school history.
