Braves Pitcher Appeals Suspension For Beaning Fielder
ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta Braves pitcher Jonny Venters is appealing his four-game suspension for throwing consecutive pitches at Milwaukee's Prince Fielder last weekend.
Venters is available for Tuesday night's game against the San Diego Padres.
Manager Bobby Cox is serving his one-game suspension in the series opener against the Padres.
General manager Frank Wren doesn't know when Venters' appeal will be heard.
Venters threw a pitch over Fielder's head and his next pitch hit him in the back Saturday. Both teams were warned after the first pitch, and Venters and Cox were ejected after the second pitch hit Fielder.
Cox's ejection was his record 156th and third this season.
