WAUSAU (WAOW) - Wausau West High School Hockey Coach Pete Susens is being inducted into the University of Wisconsin-Superior 2010 Hall of Fame receiving the Mertz Mortorelli Coaching Achievement Award.
During Susens' noteworthy career he coached and taught 34 years, 33 of which were at Wausau West High School. He has been actively involved in area youth hockey programs for 33 years as well. Additionally he supports athletic programs at West by being an assistant baseball coach for the past 25 years and frequently announcing at football and soccer sporting events. Pete is a business education teacher, serving as the Department Chair, and is a highly valued member of Wausau West's teaching and coaching staffs.
Inductees to the Hall of Fame are nominated each year by UW-Superior Alumni and selected by UW-Superior's Hall of Fame Committee. The first induction took place in April 1963. Since then more than 120 individuals and 13 teams who have made outstanding contributions to the success of the university's athletic program or have achieved noteworthy careers in coaching and wellness have been inducted. This year's Hall of Fame Banquet will be held in September.
