Cleaning up after the storm

By Heather Sawaski

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Storms rolled through Wausau's north side last night. A massive tree on 6th street collapsed under heavy straight-line winds knocking out a portion of a family's garage.

The giant Cottonwood is thought to be one of the oldest trees in Wausau at around 150 years. It was 7 feet in diameter and more than 20 feet around.

"It was kind of crazy," said Dean Rein, who was home at the time the tree fell. "I was freaking out a little bit. I started calling my mom and dad. I didn't know what we were going to do at that point."

The boy says he is a little sad to see the tree go. Crews believe it blew down more easily, because parts of the trunk were starting to rot.
