(WAOW)- Brock Stassi truly has the baseball family behind him, two brothers who also star on the diamond, and before that his great-great uncle actually hit the field with the Yankees playing with greats Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.
Says Brock Stassi, "Yeah it's cool coming from a baseball family and being able to talk about games and all that good stuff so it's fun."
Says Guido Aspeitia, "They come from just a baseball background, obviously a baseball lineage with Ruth, Gehrig, so it's a neat deal for him."
Stassi embraces that heritage every day, proof is in the pudding as the soon-to-be Nevada senior was named the WAC pitcher of the year this last season for the wolfpack.
Says Stassi, "Yeah it had been one of my goals going into the start of the season and I was just happy I was able to do it, I put in a lot of hard work in order to do so."
The lefty has struck out 9 batters in just over 16 innings pitched this year for the Chucks, but he also swings a pretty good bat, ranking in the top ten in average with the team.
Says Stassi, "Hitting is important to me and I love doing both so it's all good."
Says Aspeitia, "Obviously just a great kid, he can play pretty much any position that a left-hander can play, so we're real fortunate to have him."
Stassi and the Chucks enter Thursday just a game back of Eau Claire for first place in the South.
