Still time to donate blood for a fair ticket

ROTHSCHILD (WAOW) - A certain group of people is out for blood.  Don't worry, it's for a good cause.

The BloodCenter of Wisconsin also dishes out a nice incentive, a free one day ticket to the Wisconsin Valley Fair.

The Rothschild Village Hall is filled with people ready to give.

All it takes is an hour and a single person's blood can save up to three lives.

Vicki Bohman/Community Recruiting Representative: "We have gotten a very good response. It's a great way to do something to help someone else and also get into the fair for free. We all like to enjoy the outdoors and go out to the fair. So it is something where we've gotten a really wonderful response from. We do appreciate people coming out to donate blood."

All types of blood are needed.  O-Negative is used a lot because it's universal.

It's not too late to sign up.  Two more donation times are set up for next week Tuesday and Thurday afternoon at the Rothschild Village Hall from 1-6pm.

Appointments are requested but walk-ins are welcomed.

Bohman: "In order to be a blood donor you do need to be in good health, meaning no cold or flu symptoms the day you come in. You do need to weigh at least 110 pounds and you should bring along a photo ID such as a driver's license."

16-year-olds need parental consent.

The BloodCenter of Wisconsin supplies blood to more than 50 hospitals across the state.
