Both runways open at rain-soaked Milwaukee airport

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Both runways at Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport have reopened following overnight rainstorms, ending hours of delays for hundreds of stranded travelers.

Water flooded both commercial runways Friday morning. All flights were canceled or delayed until one runway reopened at 1 p.m. The second opened a few hours later.

The worst may not be over. The National Weather Service says some parts of Milwaukee could see 5 more inches of rain by Saturday.

Airport spokesman Ryan McAdams says a bigger problem might be storms in the Chicago area. He says they could lead to flights being diverted to Milwaukee. But he says crews are prepared to handle the extra traffic.
